A group of dog owners has been beaten because they had their pets play in treacherous branding while Cyclone Alfred closes on the coast of Queensland.
In a video placed on Instagram, individual dog owners were chased after their animals along a piece of battered coastline on the Gold Coast on Wednesday – where the main beach of the city has registered the highest wave since 1996 at 12.3 meters.
The man who filmed watched in horror while dog owners jumped into the dangerous branding and their pets grabbed the collars in desperate attempts to bring them to safety.
In the same clip, another dog can be seen along the edge of the water before they disappear from sight behind a sand dune.
The dog appeared again before a violent rise flooded the edge of the sand where the animal had only played a few moments earlier.
“Dog owners casually bring their dogs to the beach while Cyclone Alfred de Gold Coast is tearing apart,” read the caption.
'The police patrol this beach because it was closed to the public due to extremely dangerous large surf/cyclonic conditions.
'There were several barricades with large warning signals to prevent the public from getting around the dangerous branding everywhere.

“These people avoided the police and ignored all the signposting to play with their beloved animals on the beach!”
The clip also showed that a woman almost lost her German shepherd after it had come into huge waves that had been hit against the coastline.
She jumped in after the dog while she held herself on her phone and managed to grab it at the collar to bring him to safety.
A spokesperson for the Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ) told Daily Mail Australia that the owners of pets put their own lives in danger, as well as the life of the dogs.
'We urge pets owners to keep their pets safe and to adhere to the warnings issued by the authorities and to avoid the beach in its current circumstances. It's just not safe for people or pets, “they said.
RSPCA Queensland refused to comment on the specific video, but said that Daily Mail Australia dog owners should not expose their pets to cyclone -related dangers.
“RSPCA insists on all owners of pets to consider the well -being of their animals and to find safety in accordance with emergency warnings and updates,” said a spokesperson.
Colleague Instagram users were shocked by the images.

“OMG some people are not allowed to have pets, so so crazy!” They wrote.
“Wild how men can stand there and just watch while filming … don't you proudly have?” Said another and focused on the man who is filming.
'Personally, I could never just stand and watch, I would jeopardize one hundred percent myself for those dogs.
“You saw what was going to happen and you just went back and looked.”
Another called the video “sickly” while someone stated “These people should not be dog owners!”
The AWLQ said that owners of pets in Cycloon-through-the areas must ensure to guarantee the safety and well-being of their animals.
“We encourage all owners of pets to first practice safety when it comes to their pets during this event,” they said.
'It is really important to keep your pets inside prior to and during the event and to ensure that they have a safe space. Storms can be very painful for animals.
'It is also a timely reminder for owners of companion animals to check whether their PET microchip data is up -to -date in the event that a pet is lost.
“If someone finds a lost pet, our advice is to contain that pet if it is safe to do this and contact the council or your local veterinarian (if they can help).”
