A Californian university finishes traditional changing rooms for men and women in an attempt to support transgender students – even if the governor of the state of transgender athletes in women's sports condemns.
The University of California, Davis, announced plans last month to renovate the changing rooms in its activities and recreation activities, referring to student feedback as the motivation for the $ 5 million project.
“We appreciate inclusive, accessible environments that meet the various needs of our community,” said the officials of schools at the time according to Fox News.
'We are pleased to announce that we will renovate the current dressing room facilities to implement universal changing rooms.
“All campus and recreation members can use our universal changing rooms, regardless of who they are and how they identify themselves,” they continued and notice that the space will be “including members with disabilities and all gender identities.”
But after some students had expressed concern about the safety of the 'universal' changing rooms, which were seized by critics of the transgender movement, the university revised its statement, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
It now says: 'All members of the campus recreation can use our new changing rooms. These spaces include ADA accessible facilities for members with disabilities. '
Under the plans for the new dressing room, the university would offer a handful of private cabanas, changing rooms and toilet rooms with floor to ceiling walls and doors.

Renderings also show that individual men's, women's and gender-inclusive bathrooms would still be made available to students.

“I change for my cupboard and use moisturizer because that is where all my things are and now I will have to do that for the opposite sex,” the student complained.
A third also doubted the safety of the proposal.

However, UC DAVIS officials insist that the renovation will tackle students' privacy and safety problems, while operational efficiency is also improved, making faster affairs possible and ensures accessibility for students with disabilities.
“In the redesign, the common room for use by all members and the changing areas, showers and toilets are completely private,” the spokesperson for the University of Bill Kisliuk told The Chronicle.
