Cyclone Alfred is slowly going to the coast of South Queensland with experts who agree that the delay will increase the severity of the storm when it finally lands.

The cyclone delayed up to 6 km/h at night and rose to 8 km/h on Friday morning to 8 km/h.

After almost a week of nervous anticipation, the 2 category system is now expected to cross the Moreton Bay Islands on Saturday around 7 a.m. before he touches between Noosa and Beenleigh about three hours later.

Earlier, Andrew Dowdy, main research scientist said in extreme weather at the University of Melbourne, who had effectively stuck the Cycloon.

“The slow pace of Alfred will bring even more rain for affected communities because it will linger longer,” he said.

'The delaying means that the enormous waves activated by the cyclone will also take longer, which means that the coastalosia and floods are probably worse.

'Alfred is unusual because it is the first cyclone in half a century that is so far to the south and makes expected landing.

'Weather patterns mean that most cyclones that go to the south are diverted to the east, but the abrupt Westwart shift of Alfred is due to a large region of high pressure to the south, which pushed it directly to heavily populated areas.

“These steering winds are not very strong, that's why Alfred moves slowly.”
