An 83-year-old grandfather fought an attacker of machete-waving to protect his older woman after the sex-reversed intruder had abused other older neighbors.
Patrick Bogue, 83, woke up on Thursday with the sound of shuffling in his house in West Sydney in the middle of the night after the attacker had broken into a window.
After he was called up for his wife Patricia, who recovered in a separate bedroom, Mr. Bogues was confronted with a masked man armed with the frightening knife.
But the courageous grandfather struggled with the knives before Mr Bogues fought him with his own Nike sneaker of the intruder.
The attacker – described as 'long and slender construction, with dark skin, outdated in his 20s and gently spoken' – then fled through the window he had smashed to enter.
The sneaker has since been handed over to detectives for forensic testing.
Unknown to Mr Bogues, his house was the fourth in Merrylands of at least five broken into by the intruder during a wild rampage between 4 am and 6.20 am on Thursday.
One of the victims told the NSW police that she woke up to see the armed man climb on her bed before putting a knife on her throat and demanded sex.

The police claim that the attacker had previously tried to molest another older woman before he 'touches another sexually' in a separate house invasion.
An older victim told Daily Mail Australia that she had since replaced the locks on her doors and said that she had been made 'sorry' residents to feel unsafe in her house.
She said she was not touched by the intruder, but said he had left with different credit cards.
An older man who lives in the same block said that his house was also directed by the intruder.
He said he was awakened by a 'strange colorful sound' early on the morning of his 96th birthday.
After having woke up for some time, He left his dog to his front garden before he was asleep again.
Some time later the police arrived and pointed out that his flight screen had been cut and a separate door screen had been removed.
The man said he did not believe that the man broke in his house, but was still shaken by the events.
“I just hope they catch the grimy bugger, it's just damn terrible,” he said. “It's a good area. Something like this just shouldn't happen. '

“Mama has been crook, so she only slept,” he said, and choked the tears back. 'I just think of the two women who were sexually abused.
“I keep thinking, if he had responded to where Mama slept, he could have been with Mama.”
Twee's father said that his parents had discovered chocolate wriggers in a sitting room, only meter from where Patricia had slept and that the intruder had the linen cupboard and the pantry 'rough'.
“We think he could have been here for a while before Dad caught him,” he said. “I just keep thinking how much worse it could have disappeared.”
While Mrs. Bogue was undamaged, the older Lord Bogue needed treatment to remove crushed glass from his feet after chasing the intruder over the broken window.
Eamonn said that his Irish-Australian father was planning to dance during a St Patrick's Day parade, but was no longer capable of his injuries.

The brave grandfather was later given the collection of a new window from a nearby store on Friday.
Mahmoud, a nearby inhabitant, whose security cameras could not film the intruder, said Patrick was known about Dancing.
“They are lovely people,” he said.
The sex crime team of the State Crime Command has now started an investigation with local investigators to find the perpetrator before striking.
The man was caught on the camera that one home entered before he left quietly after attacking the male homeowner with his knife.
“The perpetrator had a brief battle with that resident, and the perpetrator produced a knife that caused the occupant of the building an injury,” said Sex Crimes Squad commander Jayne Doherty.
“We are deeply concerned about the actions of this perpetrator.”
