Bureau of Meteorology is accused of ‘crying wolf’ as outrage grows over Cyclone Alfred ‘fearmongering’: ‘They shut the city down for this?’

Cyclone Alfred may have lost steam when it hit the east coast of Australia, but it certainly hunted some recoil online about the Bureau of Meteorology's Dire warnings.

The weather institution of the government has issued warnings during the week that Zuidoost -Veensland and Noordoost -NSW can be destroyed by the two -system category -the first cyclone to find the region in five decades.

It was lowered to a category one at night and was not even a cyclone but a tropical low point because it was approaching the coast, although there is still a danger to widespread floods of long -term rainfall, especially in the NSW Northern Rivers.

The agency probably played it safely after extreme weather conditions in recent years, such as the Lismore floods from 2022 and 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires, but some local residents were not impressed that the situation was painted as dangerous.

'All that work and money spent the preparation for some drizzle. The mosquitoes are more dangerous than this supposed Cat2/Tropical Low, “said one person.

“Of course, but they close the city and public transport for it,” said another.

Schools, public transport, supermarkets and airports were closed in the region in the run -up to the weather system.

Some people online mocked the 'Crying Wolf' agency and described the fierce storm as 'a beating'.

The Bureau of Meteorology indicated that the system of the Cyclone 'category' only refers to wind speed and urged people to remember from celebrating, because the rain and floods are still in danger.

“Just like a memory of everyone, the Tropical Cyclone category is based on the wind strength and wind current speed,” said deskumeteorologist Miriam Bradbury.

'That means that we have disadvantaged that wind in the last hours, which leads to that weakening in the system.

'However, it does not speak about the rain and the flood risk that we are still anticipating.

“The system is no longer a tropical cyclone, but significant, serious weather warnings and flood warnings remain in place, so that that risk of heavy rainfall, flash floods and river floods for the rest of Saturday and enters Sunday.”

Despite the risk of flooding, residents started posting memes and videos that enjoy the predictions of the agency.

One QUenslander said the state was determined to 'rebuild' in the aftermath of the massacre and placed a photo of a blown over lounger.

Another resident posted a video-in-cheek video that emphasized the 'damage' that caused the cyclone in his back garden, which showed it completely unaffected.
