The US and Russia jointly called on the United Nations Security Council to meet each other about the spiral violence in Syria, after more than 1,000 people were slaughtered this week.
Diplomats said last night that they had called for the closed door meeting to discuss the bitter violence that broke out on Thursday after armed men loyal to Assad to Assad attacked the new safety forces of Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Britain, the total number of civil martyrs was 973 – including women and children.
In addition, 125 members of the Government Security Force and 148 were killed with armed groups affiliated with Assad.
The watchdog said that the 'murders, field performances and ethnic cleaning operations' were underway in the aftermath of fatal collisions between security forces and Alawite Schutters who are loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
It added that electricity and drinking water were cut off in large areas in the city of Latakia.
The collisions are some of the deadliest since the conflict of Syria started 14 years ago, and meant a major escalation in the challenge for the new government in Damascus, three months after insurgents had taken the authority after removing Assad from the power.
Syria's leader Ahmed Ahmed al-Sharaa sworn last night to give the perpetrators of the massacre 'no clementia', adding that they would be held responsible.

He wrote on X: 'The United States condemn the radical Islamist terrorists, including foreign jihadists, who have killed people in western Syria in recent days.
'The United States stands with the religious and ethnic minorities of Syria, including the Christian, Druze, Alawiet and Kurdish communities, and offers its participation to the victims and their families.
“The interim authorities of Syria must keep the perpetrators of these slaughter against the minority communities of Syria responsible.”
