A young father on the edge of homelessness has asked politicians about their plans to reduce immigration and make homes more affordable for struggling Australians.
Morgan Cox applied ABC's Q+a panel in Wyong on Monday evening to the NSW Central Coast to ask why the Albanian government approved mass migration to the country when the limited housing stock yielded unreasonable rental increases.
'I recently received a rent increasing message for an extra $ 180 a week, which yields around $ 10,000 a year, “Mr Cox began.
'I tried to find a cheaper place and there are just not there. What is little available, there are dozens of people in line.
“Many of them are immigrants and they have a lot more money than I can get.”
The hard -working father revealed that his young family had already been forced by rental costs from Sydney – partly powered by an inflow of people moving to the city and increasing the demand for real estate.
“I'm already working on two jobs,” said Mr. Cox.
'Another rent increase and my family – my one year old baby – we are confronted with homelessness and we have nowhere.

Cox wondered why the Albanian government mass migration was approved to the country when the limited housing stock is already thin (depicted, people standing in line to view an apartment in Sydney)
“I want to know, the government will reduce immigration to match the availability of homes or will we continue until every regular working Australian is homeless?”
Mr. Cox's vulnerability was received with applause from the public, but the reaction of the panel to the desperate father seemed loose in the light of the record -high immigration levels, of more than 500,000 a year, under labor.
Federal Minister of Health Mark Butler was the first to answer Mr Cox's question.
“I'm so sorry that you go through it and it's a story that we hear throughout the country, especially in the bigger states around the big cities,” he said.
“But we have worked very hard to achieve migration levels, immigration levels to something that we think the country can be arranged.”
The minister's comments led to a sarcastic smile of the studio audience.
“We want to see that those migration numbers return to something like normal for Australia,” Mr Butler continued.
'We also know that migration has been an important part of maintaining our economy.

'We also have a very tight labor market with many skills shortages. I know in health, in hospitals, in elderly care facilities, we are struggling to keep those activities going.
'So it's a great balance.
'We know we need more house. We just have to build more houses. '
An emotional Mr. Cox was seen that he shook his head about Mr Butler's comments.
He added that every day was a struggle for him and his young family.
“The government makes the laws and decides who comes in,” Mr. Cox told Mr. Butler.
“So if you come in 2.5 million people for a few years, you can certainly say to them:” No, we don't have enough houses for you “. “
Former NSW treasurer Matt Kean was Botter in offering a solution for the home crisis.
He claimed that the issue was 'more complex' than reducing migration and instead called on the governments to reduce 'bureaucracy'.

'People are find it difficult to live in Sydney. They have to leave their care networks, their families and friends – and we have to tackle this.
'The number one priority for governments, a lever that they can attract, makes it easier in our planning system to build things.
“There is far too much bureaucracy and green tape that stops the development of homes, which are in Sydney, Melbourne or straight in Australia.”
The total immigration levels last year exacerbated to 444,480, compared to the record -high levels that approached 550,000 at the end of 2023, based on the combined permanent and long -term intake.
But the net overseas migration level was still more than double the 194,400 of 2019-20 financial year before the start of the COVID Pandemie.
The Rental Crisis of Australia has not demonstrated any signs of relaxation, whereby the vacancy rate fell to one percent in January, according to SQM research figures.
The total number of rental vacancies fell sharply to 31,822 – a significant decrease compared to the 47,336 figures from December.

SQM Research Managing Director Louis Christopher explained that the strong decrease in rental vacancies was a strong indication that the crisis for the rental market was not over.
He believes that the Australia rental market can continue to deteriorate even more in the coming months.
“From the perspective of a tenant, the sharp decrease in the Ruantauts at the beginning of 2025 is very disappointing, especially because there was a glimpse of a moderating rental market in the second half of 2024,” said Mr. Christopher.
