Your precious Galaxy Ring might be a little harder to get your hands on than you thought. The new smart wearable is already sold out at Samsung’s online store, and we’re seeing supplies dwindling at third-party retailer Best Buy.
It’s almost as if people are reading health and fitness editor Matt Evans’ excellent hands-on review, in which he calls the new Galaxy Ring “the best smart ring for Samsung users.”
Unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in Paris on July 10, the Ring is notable for its concave design, deep integration with Samsung Health, and built-in AI chops. While it’s not the cheapest smart ring on the market (at $399 / £399 / around AU$750 (AU pricing TBC), it’s more expensive than the popular Oura Ring, for example), the Galaxy Ring is notable for its lack of a subscription model.
That’s right, from now on you get all the great health, wellness and fitness tracking features for free. It has a great chance to make it to our list of best smart rings.
Maybe all this has prompted people to Samsung to buy all the available Galaxy Ring supplies online. Granted, no one knows how many Galaxy Rings Samsung had in stock. The supplies are clearly more abundant at Amazonwhich seems to have every size in every colorway. Things get a little dicey over at Best Buy, though. Sizes 9 and 10 seem to be sold out in Titanium Black. Size 12 is sold out for Silver. If you like Gold, though, you’re in luck: every size is available.
Samsung seems to be enjoying the buying frenzy. The site features a cute message: “It’s not you. It’s us. We can’t make them fast enough.”
While Samsung has revealed a lot about how the Samsung Galaxy Ring works, including a potentially astonishing week-long battery life, we don’t know as much as consumers about how well the device actually works.
When I traveled to Paris for Unpacked last week, Samsung let me try on all the different types of rings. With my size 10 finger, most of them didn’t fit, and that’s part of the problem.
A smart ring is not like a smartwatch. You don’t just buy one and put it on. You need a ring that fits your finger. Even evaluating the wearable is a two-step process. First, you get a size (sizes 5-13), then the ring arrives and you set it up.
Even then, you’ll need to wear the ring long enough to learn your sleep and exercise habits. Eventually, it should be able to track everything from fitness to whether or not you have sleep apnea (a first for wearables).
The Galaxy Ring becomes an even more powerful device when paired with the new Galaxy AI, which uses data collected by the ring (and a Galaxy Watch 7 or Galaxy Watch Ultra, if you also buy that) to provide generative, AI-based health insights and advice.
It’s a potent mix that’s got some new Galaxy Ring owners excited, but those hoping to join the wearable party are having a hard time putting a ring on it. The good news is that Amazon has the stock, and Best Buy appears to be far from sold out. How long that will last is anyone’s guess.
