Do not go directly to jail: Hardened criminals are ‘laughing at the law’ after being handed short sentences or slaps on wrist amid Labour moves to slash the use of prisons

Labor's obsession With the reduction of the prison use will lead to more persistent criminals getting away with soft penalties, it was warned last night.

Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick said that productive crooks 'laugh at the naivety of the government' and 'popping champagne Corks' on the prospect of light penalties.

It came when a new analysis demonstrated how perpetrators with a long history of violating the law were depicted with a blow to the wrist or a short spell in prison.

In one shocking case, a domestic abuser with 11 convictions for 13 offenses against earlier partners was only handed over nine weeks in prison after attacking his fiancé.

And in another one perverse 'Prowler' who sexually abused three schoolgirls in a city center in one afternoon, 15 months of prison was given – and it was expected that it would be a provisional time within a few weeks of the time.

Jenrick wrote exclusively for the Daily Mail and said that the plan of the Minister of Justice Shabana Mahmood to lock up fewer perpetrators – supported by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer – will make the situation much worse.

The new investigation, by Campaign Group Crime, revealed a 'frankly dangerous' trend in the courts that sees 'hardened criminals', given an easy ride through the courts, Mr. Jenrick said.

“If the police focused on productive criminals and the courts hand out stronger penalties, we could lock these people for longer and reduce the crime percentages,” the MP writes today.

'But instead, Starmer is planning to delete short prison sentences later this year, which means that less of these productive perpetrators will go to prison.

“If Labor continues with this, criminals will again pop champagne Corks to celebrate at Starmer's Soft-Touch.”

In an analysis of judicial reports from December to the beginning of February, Crush Crime found a series of perpetrators who received soft punishments for sex crimes, violence and theft.

Dr. Lawrence Newport, founder of the campaign, said: 'Great Britain has been soft for crime for too long.

'Only 10 percent of the perpetrators are responsible for half of all crime. But our courts give lighter and lighter sentences to these hardened criminals.

'We can all believe in second chances, but it is unacceptable to see that our legal system is releasing perpetrators with dozens or even hundreds of offenses. It is unjust.

“The public must be protected against these career criminals.”

In another disturbing case, the new analysis was emphasized, a perpetrator who kicked a man during a Fracas was imprisoned for only a year, despite the fact that he had convictions for 110 earlier violations, including 13 with attacks.

In the meantime a productive perpetrator who threatened an off -License massier with a syringe and told him he had a gun before he stealed £ 300 of spirits.

The 41-year-old criminal who had 47 previous convictions for 130 violations was sentenced to only 16 months in prison.

Another disturbing mild punishment was given to a productive perpetrator with dozens of earlier convictions after he was found guilty of burglary.

The Cardiff –man had 84 earlier convictions, including 31 related to thefts, but ran free from the court with a conditional punishment of two years before the latter in his litany of crimes.

Labor is preparing to significantly reduce the number of criminals sent to prison.

Mrs. Mahmood has launched a review with an assignment to 'explore stricter penalties outside prison', including house arrest.

The initial report, published last month, criticized longer prison conditions introduced by successive governments as a 'knee-jerk' reaction, and said that a 'tough for crime story' had left the legal system on 'the edge of collapse'.

Former secretary of Tory Justice David Lawke, who leads the assessment of work, said: 'Punishment will always be a central goal of the criminal justice system, but it is not the only goal; And the prison is not the only form of punishment '.

Similarly, prisons Lord Timpson said before his appointment last year that only a third of the prisoners should certainly be in prison.

Mrs. Mahmood released thousands of criminals from prison early on to free up space in overcrowded prisons.

She launched a scheme in the fall with which most criminals – excluding violent and sexual offenders and terrorists – can be automatically released after 40 percent of a court.

On the first day of the program, liberated prisoners came to be Champagne Corks and promised to be Labor voters for life, with one who proclaimed 'Big Up Keir Starmer' when he posed with a £ 150,000 Bentley.

The assessment commissioned by Mrs. Mahmood will make recommendations in the spring.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: “The new government inherited a legal system in a crisis, days away from the prison places.

'The recidivism rates were too high and prisons had become a breeding ground for crime.

“This government took immediate action to tackle the crisis in our prisons. We will build 14,000 new prison places.

“We have also informed the independent conviction review to see how we can reduce recidivism, reduce crime and make our streets safer.”
