People call on Derbantshire Council to assess the camera in the toilet facility in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, after it was revealed that a cupboard is partially visible.

The cameras were placed there in 2022 in response to the concern about vandalism, the council said.

Susan Hobson, leader of the conservative group in Derbantshire Dales District Council, said: “I feel very uncomfortable when a woman that my personal space can be violated by CCTV in public toilets, and I am sure that most other women would feel the same.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Dales District Council said: 'No one privacy is compromised by the CCTV cameras, originally placed at the Ashbourne Public Loos about police advice to combat an increasing amount of vandalism.

'The good news is that clear damage has been reduced on that site.

'We welcome that council member Hobson shares her specific concerns with us, but would indicate that all our CCTV cameras have already been independently checked. The next audit takes place in May. '

In January, a female fan hit a Football League club for a CCTV camera that is installed above the toilets of the ladies in their stadium.

The Birmingham City supporter traveled to Swindon to see the blues play on the provincial land in the trophy of the Football League.

Birmingham took a 2-1 victory, but it was not a completely happy night for the visitors after one of their fans caught a glimpse of a CCTV camera while using the toilet.

To X she wrote next to a photo of the camera: “Was away on the toilet at Swindon and notice a CCTV camera directly above me.”

The post was viewed millions of times after he had gone viral, giving Swindon a response.

Vicki Eyles, Swindon Town's Fan Engagement Officer, said: “Sorry for the inconvenience, I am more than happy to contact you in more detail, but make sure that this has been carried out beyond the EFL and there is digital blur for the toilets, it is for using the hall.”
