Police use drones and cover of darkness to foil protesters and help council install Low Traffic Neighbourhood planters and signs

The police with drones used the coverage of darkness so that the workers of the municipality would complete a controversial low -traffic schedule.

Council staff and ETM contractors were supported this morning at 3 hours' Sam contractors by a huge presence of the police in Barton Hill, Bristol to install planters, to sign buses and paint the roads.

Previous efforts to install the traffic blockers have been undergone by mass protests and a small group of residents were warned about this morning's work and tried to stop at 4.30 am.

But the coordinated operation of the Force meant that work was being carried out at several locations, because dozens of officers and the Police Drone Operator team swarmed the area, so that contractors could work unhindered for the first time.

A handful of local residents tried to stop the installation at the five remaining locations, but only one of them – where a group of women lay on the road to prevent the completion of one of the bus gates.

One police connection officer was filmed with the announcement that the demonstrators would block the highway if they continued their protest – although the highway was already blocked by ETM's trucks.

In chaotic scenes between 4 am and 5 hours, a small group of women physically stopped the completion of the busport at the Marsh Lane Junction and welcomed when the council and the police withdrew.

But the dawn revealed that the workers of the council had been successful in installing the controversial planters, roadblocks and bus gates at other locations – including two locations on Victoria Avenue, at Cobden Street and Dulcie Road.

The bus gates on Avonvale Road do not seem to be operational yet – temporary electronic signs indicate that it is not yet active – but the work to complete the livable neighborhood in East Bristol is completed at other locations in the area.

One of the residents who came out in the middle of the night was Fadumo Farah, who lives in nearby Barton House.

“We got out after 4.30 am, but they were there since about 3 o'clock in the morning,” she said.

'I have never seen police in one place again, there must have been 60 of them and they had the drone on. We had to separate to try to reach all the locations, but we couldn't manage it.

“We went on the road on Avonvale Road, about four of us, and they stopped their work and left,” she added.

The implementation of the livable East Bristol district has so far tried the city council to prevent traffic on a number of roads, mainly in St George and Redfield, but this morning an important route by Barton Hill is the subject of action.

Avonvale Road runs east-west along the north side of Netham Park and in the heart of Barton Hill.

At the intersection with Marsh Lane – a place that is famous for the Banksy on the corner there – the city council wants to prevent cars and vans from continuing to travel to the west to Barton Hill, while still allowing cycling and pedestrians.
