I transformed my hair with a 69p purchase – it increased growth and helped with volume
One SIMPLE step could be the key to boosting your hair growth and creating volume.
One woman showed off her hair transformation after a year of using the budget-friendly purchase.
In a Reddit afteruser Infamous-Ad3287 revealed the exact steps she took to grow out her locks.
She explained that her hair, which had gone from curly to wavy during her childhood, had been severely damaged by the heat.
Thanks to her hair care journey, the Redditor not only solved her hair problem but also boosted her hair growth.
Her before and after comparison showed how her locks went from just below her shoulders to waist length in 12 months.
She said one tactic that helped was to oil your hair “one to three times a week.”
The poster said she applies oil to her scalp and ends “when they look dry.”
She recommended applying oil to your hair one to three hours before washing.
“In the shower, I make sure I leave my shampoo and conditioner on for at least three minutes,” she says.
“After that I sometimes use an herbal rinse made from watercress leaves, [which] “You can get them in any Asian market.”
However, she mainly indicated that the accelerated growth was due to rapid daily activity.
“I also emphasize scalp massages, which I do for at least 10 minutes a day,” she explains.
While the Reddit user joked that she probably spent “way too much money” on her massager, there are cheaper versions available.
At Temu you can buy a silicone scalp massager for just 69p.
The Bigmingham Dermatology Clinic reported on the benefits of scalp massage for your hair.
They explained that the technique can help nourish the hair shafts and strengthen the hair root.
The 4 Phases of the Hair Growth Cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen phase:Also called the ‘growth phase’ or ‘active phase’, is the phase in which the cells in the hair root divide most rapidly, causing more new hair to be formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows about half an inch per month [about six inches a year]and faster in summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen phase:After the anagen phase, your hair cycle enters a short transition phase called the catagen phase. This phase marks the end of active hair growth and separates individual hairs from the blood supply and the cells that produce new hair.
About three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any one time and it lasts about 10 days.
Telogen phase:The third phase of your natural hair growth cycle is the telogen phase, a resting period during which hairs remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
It is estimated that 10-15 percent of your hair is in the telogen phase at any given time.
The telogen phase lasts about three months or 100 days.
Exogenous phase:The final stage of the hair growth cycle, when individual hair strands release from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process starts again.
According to the experts, this helps ‘promote new hair growth and strengthen existing hair’.
They added that scalp massage also makes the hair softer and conditioned, making it more manageable.
It contributes to an even distribution of natural oils in the hair, creating a shiny and radiant result.
The professionals also indicated that scalp massage increases resilience and prevents brittleness and split ends.
According to the Redditor, there are additional measures you can take to prevent split ends.
“I also make sure my ends are healthy. I wear a silk pillowcase and a bonnet at night, and I try to braid my hair when I’m not out and about,” she says.
“I have also recently employed the search and destroy method, which [involves] “Individually finding split ends and cutting them off before they split further down the hair shaft.”
