More than 50,000 people are descending on Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this week for the Republican Party convention following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

A gunman hit Trump in the ear at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday before being shot dead by the Secret Service. One rally attendee has died and others have been injured.

Less than 24 hours after the shooting, Trump decided he would travel full speed to Milwaukee this week for the Republican Party convention.

He will officially close the week as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate for the third time in a row.

The 2024 GOP convention will take place at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Official events will take place every evening from approximately 6pm from Monday 15th July through Thursday 18th July.

Other activities will take place on the campus surrounding the arena, beginning at approximately 1:00 p.m. each day of the convention. Private press events and meetings will also be held in Milwaukee each day.

By the end of this week, the Republican Party will officially nominate Trump as their candidate for president in November.

Opened in 2018, Fiserv Forum is home to the Milwaukee Bucks professional NBA basketball team and Marquette University’s Golden Eagles college basketball team.

The arena has a seating capacity of approximately 18,000 when set up for concerts.

The U.S. Secret Service requires protesters and others planning to demonstrate during the convention to register and sign up for the demonstration platform and parade route.

Registered persons must remain within the designated First Amendment area.

The Parade Route allows groups to mobilise and march to make their views known, while the Speakers Platform provides an opportunity for protesters to make comments and speeches about their cause.

According to the USSS, the platform and parade route are “within both sight and sound range of the Republican National Convention.”

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley told Fox News Sunday after the shooting the day before that “in terms of the physical sense, the arena is ready. Security is here.”

“We feel good about working with the Secret Service and 40 different law enforcement agencies to determine what that security is going to look like,” he added.
