The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected the earthquake around 10:26 am PT (1:30 pm et) near Bombay Beach, which is located northeast of San Diego.
The after -shock prediction of the Agency shows a 90 percent chance on a 3 -magnitude or higher stroke in the following week and a risk of 29 percent on a 4 -size.
There is a small chance of four percent on a after -shock with five magnitude.
Bombay Beach is directly on the San Andreas error, one of the most important and active fault lines in California.
The error covers 800 miles from Cape Mendocino in the north to the Salton Sea in the South, and scientists have long warned that it can produce an 8 -magnitude or higher earthquake that is known as the 'Big One'.
The 'Big One' would cause around 1,800 deaths, 50,000 injuries and $ 200 billion damage, according to the large Shakeout in California.
The last major earthquakes on the San Andreas error were in 1857 and 1906.

The USGS shows the earthquake at a depth of five miles, which means that it originated relatively close to the earth's surface.
According to USGS, the superficial focusing can lead to intense shaking and potentially greater damage to the surface.
No injuries or damage have been reported.
