The triumphant return from St. John to the Upper Echelon of College Basketball was cemented with the Big East Championship victory of Saturday on Creighton, although the night was not entirely pleasant for all local fans in Madison Square Garden.
Yes, coach Rick Pitin's Red Storm drove to an 82-66 victory by blowing out the Bluejays with 19 points in the second half. But it was about the last 20 minutes of action that a Creighton fan received in a shocking confrontation with the supporters of St. John, so that different beers were spilled and a visit from security.
As observed by DailyMail.com's Jake Fender, who reported from the tournament, a woman who argued for Creighton with various supporters from St. John in the second half noticed. She apparently made her neighbors angry at MSG by standing behind the basket of every blujays, and when she was told that her enthusiasm was unnecessary, she shot back to her critics.
“I will do what I want,” said Creighton's fan.
The Bluejays fan, who had been on the same chair for a large part of the tournament, seemed to confront a woman who wore St. John's colors, just to have a beer spilled in her direction.
At the moment it was that Creighton's supporter became furious and tried to accuse the fans of St. John, only for her male companion to successfully control her. In the end she was shown that some of the believers of the St. John struck.

Despite the distraction, on Saturday was an important evening for a basketball program for men that was sleeping until the Hall of Famer Pitino arrived last season.
Now, four months after the Patriarch Lou Carnesecca of the program died at the age of 99, Pitino led the red storm to his first Big East title in 25 years.
Pitino is now the sixth coach who once leads six different programs to the NCAA basketball tournament for men after having previously done at Boston University, Providence, Kentucky, Louisville and Iona.
“For all fans of St. John, this is for you!” Said Pitino after the victory. 'St. John's is the New York team!
“I saved the best for the last time,” Pitino added.
Not only is St. John's 25 years away without a large East title, but the Red Storm has not won a NCAA tournament in this millennium either.
