Social media and e -mail hacking reports rose last year, says Active fraud.
In 2024 a total of 35,434 reports were made to the reporting report of fraud and cyber crime, compared to 22,530 in 2023.
Hack methods include fraudsters who get control of an account and occur as the owner to convince others to reveal authentication codes.
Many victims believe that they are sent by a friend.
The most common motives for hacking on social media were investment fraud, ticket fraud or theft, said action fraud.
Fraudsters can also obtain account details via phishing -scam or data breaches.
People often use the same password on accounts, so when people are leaked, different accounts become vulnerable.
Action fraud has launched a campaign, supported by Meta, to encourage people to take extra online protection by making two-step verification possible.

Adam Mercer, from Active Rude, said: “Since Hacking remains the most reported cyber crime this year on social media and e -mail accounts, this campaign marks a critical issue for everyone with online accounts.”
David Agranovich, director of security policy at Meta, said: 'Founders are ruthless and continuously develop tactics to avoid detection, so we are constantly working on new ways to keep people safe.
“We started rolling out face recognition technology to help people get back into compromised or hacked accounts.”
