After undergoing invasive liposuction, a man was unable to lose his body fat and took it home in a jar.
Instead of leaving it after surgery, he repurposed it to make rose-scented soap, which met all of his natural skin care needs.
Robert Tolppi (@roberttolppi) recently had liposuction.
In a viral TikTok videothe 23-year-old documented the incredible process of making homemade soap using his human fat.
DIY DREAM
Instead of donating or throwing it away, he convinced doctors to keep the fat he had taken during the extensive surgery.
“They wanted to throw it away as medical waste, but I asked if I could keep it because I always wanted to make soap and I didn’t want to waste any good fat,” he explained.
His idea of making soap from human fat is based on a cult classic.
“Turning human fat into soap is most associated with the movie Fight Club, in which Tyler Durden, the main character, takes fat from clinic trash bins and turns it into soap,” he said.
“Although I didn’t base my work on that film specifically, I found the idea of soap made from human fat appealing. It took the conclusions of the zero-waste movement and our society’s push for recycling to the next level.”
He said they removed about 400cc of his fat, which is almost two pounds.
The Connecticut resident took the liquid home in a large glass jar.
Instead of leaving it in the dumpster, he put it to good use by being resourceful with his newly acquired fat.
According to experts at the University of California, soap made from human fat, also known as tallow soap, can act as a natural anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant moisturizer. Summer Solace Tallow.
STEP-BY-STEP
First he poured the liquid into a large pot and heated it.
Using a soap-making kit, he mixed the fat with lye to reduce the chemicals to a more usable form.
“Make sure you do your research before you go into it. I’m not a professional, but you definitely want to keep the windows open and keep the outside thinned out,” Polppi advised.
He then added some rose petals and vanilla essential oil to ensure that the soap would have a scent.
He poured the mixture into the mold and allowed it to cool and harden.
After it hardened, he cut it into square blocks that resembled regular bars of soap.
The final step of his DIY trick was to make the soap foam when he held it under water.
In the video he called it “the ultimate test.”
Polppi responded to his soap opera in a unique way and not everyone was a fan.
“It’s interesting how different the responses to this are,” he said.
“Some find the video funny, while others find it downright disgusting.”
“Your use of recycling is truly impeccable,” commented one Instagram user.
“I understand that soap is made from it… but a jar of human fat literally makes me gag,” said another:
