Coaches can be banned from an idyllic village in the Cotswolds because of chaos caused by overtoourism.
People who live in Bibury, Gloucestershire, once described by the 19th -century writer William Morris as the 'most beautiful village in England', say that it is increasingly flooded with visitors.
For a large part of the year they claim that it will be like the wild west, with cars and coaches that bring thousands of people to the small community.
Pedestrians are threatened while the image-perfect village is chaotic, they add.
After villagers had called for action and formed a working group that included councilors and the police, Gloucestershire County Council announced plans to tackle the problem.
Coaches can be banned in the long term to stop and park in the village, although fewer drastic measures will initially be taken.
The first phase, in the coming two months, includes changing the layout of parking bays to prevent coaches from parking or waiting in the layby on the B4425, next to the Swan Bridge in the middle of the village.
The second phase will see further exploration of the introduction of limitations on access to coach to the center of the village.

This would depend on the outcome of a legal consultation process that starts early in the summer.
Longer -term recommendations of the working group include the prohibition of coaches to stop and park in Bibury complete and the improvement of drawing to guide them away from the narrow lanes.
The group wants to see whether there can be areas outside the village where coaches can park.
It also wants to encourage tourists to use other ways to visit Bibury, such as walking, cycling, using public transport or minibuses.
Alderman Stephen Davies, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: 'We are dedicated to guarantee the safety and well -being of the residents and visitors to Bibury.
'The proposed measures will help traffic more effectively and improve the overall experience for everyone.
'We appreciate the support and cooperation of the community while we implement these changes.

'We also understand that these proposals may not be popular with coach operators, but we are determined to work to find a solution for coaches to visit Bibury, but this will take time.
“That is why we have tried to find compromise solutions that offer results that visitors continue to welcome in a managed way, while we also tackle the safety and congestion problems of the village.”
The chairman of the Craig Chapman parish council said: “While the inhabitants of Bibury acknowledge that we live in a beautiful village, the pressure was put on us by the enormous number of tourists who visit and coaches who bring tourists, became unbearable and unacceptable.”
He added: “Although this is the start of the action, it is very positive and I am convinced that it is appreciated by the community.”
Coaches are already forbidden to enter the center of Bourton-on-the-Water, called the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', due to similar issues such as those in Bibury.
The plans caused a war between the local population for fear that the prohibition of coaches of Bourton-on-the-water could make a 'ghost city'.
Serious parking and congestion problems led the locals to be furious because they say that Bourton-on-the-water cannot 'deal with' the enormous influx of visitors.
The beautiful village, which is 15 miles east of Cheltenham and has a population of 3,000, was given the 'Venice' label because of the number of graceful stone bridges over the river Windrush.

Tens of thousands of tourists come to the village every year – which is great for traders – but residents were increasingly frustrated by congestion.
Parish and district councilor Jon Wareing last year said that Bourton nodded under the weight of an ever-increasing number of day trippers.
'People can spend an hour in their car and drive around. Part of the '' difficult '' behavior that follows is because they become frustrated.
'One of my neighbors asked this person not to park on his property and was threatened with violence. He said he knew where they lived when they did something with his car and threatened to throw a brick through their window. '

In Bourton, Bernie Roberts, who lives just a few meters from High Street, said: “It spoiled it. I am already the best part of 30 years here. When I first started living here, there were the right stores. Now there are not. '
He complained about people who break the speed limit of 20 km / h outside his house and said that some people drove it down 'like crazy', and added that young people had to leave the village because houses were bought by outsiders they wanted to rent out.
He said: “It's a disaster. It certainly spoiled the village. '
But the local business owner Sarita Tapper, who runs the Chestnuts fashion store, did not agree.
She said that prohibiting coaches from the center would force her company to fold, because so many people visit Bourton through organized coaches. She said that although some days were very busy, others were very quiet.
She added: 'People get the wrong impression on the really busy days. Come during the winter, it's a ghost city. '
