I had a 12 lb baby at 37 weeks – now he’s wearing clothes for a baby a YEAR older
An unsuspecting mother was shocked to discover the size of her baby after her last ultrasound.
Shortly after the ultrasound, the new mother gave birth to a baby boy weighing 5.4 kilos.
In her viral videothe TikTok user (@ocxsrnkw) revealed her son’s weight after he was born via C-section.
She posted the information in response to another viral clip urging parents of large babies to share their measurements.
The young mother explained that she had an ultrasound at 37 weeks of pregnancy and that her baby weighed 4 kilos and 425 grams.
She decided to have a caesarean section, which was scheduled shortly after the ultrasound.
According to the woman, the contractions started before the planned operation.
However, she said her doctor “strongly advised” her to go ahead with the C-section given the size of her son.
“I had a baby that weighed 12 pounds,” the mother told her online followers.
She added that her son was so big that he didn’t fit into newborn clothes.
“He came out of the hospital wearing clothes from zero to three months and size one [nappies]”, she revealed.
She explained that her baby boy continues to grow tremendously.
According to the young mother, her baby is now six months old and wears 18-month-old clothes.
She added a photo of her son shortly after he was born.
The baby appeared to be about the same size as the torso of the midwife holding him up for the photo.
Experts at UT Southwestern Medical Center explained the recommended guidelines for performing cesarean sections in women with larger babies.
“Planned cesarean sections should not be performed unless the estimated fetal weight is 4.5 kg or more in women with diabetes, or 5 kg or more in other women,” the researchers said.
Average Baby Size and What Affects Size
Birth: 7 pounds 8 oz
One month: 9 pounds 7 oz
Up to three months: Up to 11 lbs 5 oz
Three to six months: Up to 17 lbs 4oz
Six to nine months: Up to 20 lbs 5oz
Nine to twelve months: Up to 22 lbs 7oz

For premature babies, those born before the 37th week of their pregnancy, a different weight applies for up to two weeks after the due date.
What can affect a baby’s weight?
Newborn babies have extra fluid retention, which means it is normal for them to lose seven to ten percent of their weight in the first few days. This should be regained within the first two weeks.
Babies are likely to gain significant weight during the first six months.
After that, the weight gain will decrease because they will start to move more again.
Other TikTok users shared their own big birth stories in the comments.
“My biggest baby was born at 35 weeks and weighed 11 pounds,” one woman said.
“My husband was 13 pounds. I was terrified of having a child that big,” said another viewer.
“Twins born at 36 weeks. 7 pounds and 8 ounces, 7 pounds and 4 ounces,” a third follower wrote.
“My brother was 15 lbs, 9 oz and wore a size 1 baby shoe. My mom said he looked like a St. Bernard puppy with just feet and hands,” wrote someone else.
