A boy died after a car was hit while walking to school in Teesdale, near Geelong.
The boy was hit on Bannockburn-Shelford Road just after 8 hours, said Victoria's police.
He died on the spot despite the efforts of emergency services to perform CPR.
The car in question left the stage, but the police later found it at a Teesdale address.
Officers now interview the female driver as part of their research.
Detectives of a large collision examination unit have attended the scene. If contacted by Daily Mail Australia, the police would not confirm more details while the investigation continued.
