A 31-year-old mother is accused of the violent shaking of her two-year-old daughter, leading to fatal head injury, has heard a court.
Morsale Mohammed Naim, of no fixed address, is currently on trial for the murder of her daughter, Opra Wali Jan, at the Crown Court in Manchester.
The court was told that Omra died tragically on February 9, 2024, after serious head injury on November 30, 2023.
Omra, who was born in Afghanistan and was raised by her father's family, came to live in the United Kingdom in September 2023 and settled in life hulm with her parents, Naim and her partner, Firlooz Wali Jan.
During this short period in the UK, the toddler passed a terrible campaign of abuse, with intentional injuries inflicted by both parents.
Public Prosecutor John Elvidge KC revealed in court that both Naim and Wali Jan had stated guilty of accusations of child abuse for deliberately burning the hand, neck and upper arm of their daughter.
However, it is the allegations of murder that Naim brought to the dock. The persecution claims that she is responsible for the deadly head injury, which were inflicted when she reportedly shook Omra so violently that the catastrophic brain injury caused.
Public Prosecutor John Elvidge KC said: 'Mrs. Naim is also accused of murder because the persecution claims that she is responsible for the head injury that caused Omra to died.

“These were serious traumatic head injuries and they were inflicted when her mother shook Opra so heavily that her head was quickly, backwards and ahead to cause catastrophic brain injuries.”
On November 20, 2023, emergency services were called to the parental home after a family member reported that Omra had 'smothered' and did not breathe.
When paramedics arrived, they found the child unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Naim was on site and assisted by a neighbor who acted like an interpreter, while Wali Jan was working.
Omra was brought to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital after the emergency treatment, where doctors noticed multiple bruises and injuries, including distinctive scars with a pattern on her hand, neck and arm.
A CT scan revealed the extent of the injuries, with devastating brain damage, including several subdural bleeding, extensive brain injury due to a lack of oxygen and retinal bleeding in the right eye.
The scan also revealed that Omra had suffered various rib fractures, both old and new.
'In visual research, the paramedics who responded to the emergency call and the doctors who received Opra received in the hospital noticed that she had a number of bruises and figures on her head and body. The medical staff took photos. The markings include distinctive scars with a pattern on her right hand, neck and left left arm, “said Mr. Elvidge KC.
'Then, that same evening, a CT scan revealed that Opra had sustained a devastating brain injury with multifocal subdural bleeding, extensive hypoxic brain injury and multiple retinal bleeding in the right eye.
“The CT scan also showed that Omra had a healing rib fracture and an MRI scan suggested three more acute rib fractures.”
Despite attempts to save her, the condition of Omra deteriorated and the living support was removed on 9 February 2024, after the High Court was given permission. A post-mortem confirmed that the child's death was caused by head injury as a result of violent shaking.
The prosecution claims that Naim's actions were a deliberate attack, in which shaking caused severe acceleration and delay in Omra's head, which led to the fatal injuries.
Naim, who denies the charges, claims that she did not attack her daughter and did not intend to cause her damage. She has not guilty of murder.
The process continues.
