An English -speaking tourist who tackled a furious knife after he stabbed five people in Amsterdam was praised as a 'true hero'.
Dramatic images show that the individual holds the attacker and limit him from further attacks in the busy street.
Witnesses said he was overwhelmed by bystanders before officers arrived on stage.
The suspect, who was arrested, was then taken to the hospital with a leg injury.
It is not yet known whether the man is a British citizen, but reports claim that he spoke English and the police did not confirm from which country he is.
They have only confirmed that he is not a Dutch national.
A spokesperson for the Amsterdam -power praised his actions such as 'heroic', according to De Telegraaf.
They added: “If you catch a suspect in the act, you can hold him until the police arrive.”

The five victims were a 67-year-old and a 69-year-old American duo, a 26-year-old Polish man, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium and a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam.
The police arrived to find the wounded people at various locations in and around Sint Nicolaasstraat in the center of Amsterdam.
They then deposited a large area around the Royal Palace in the Central Damsplein to land an emergency helicopter.
Dutch newspaper Het Parool reported that two people were stabbed for the first time in a side street of the busy shopping street of the city, Nieuwendijk.
Allegedly, the suspect reportedly ran to the road of Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, where he stabbed another person on the corner of the two streets.

Another victim was also stabbed closer to the square on Gravenstraat, before the suspect was arrested on Nieuwendijk.
Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel said yesterday that it was too early to speculate about the motive behind the attack.
Amsterdam Mayor Feme Halsema said that a police investigation was 'in full swing' and that the authorities hoped more details about what happened soon.
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and loved ones,” she added.
