In the clip she says: “Food for my kids when I’m too lazy to go grocery shopping as a stay-at-home mom.”

The mother continued making her dinner and added two cans of tuna to the frying pan, accidentally dropping the lid on it as well.

Then she added a cup of whole milk and smelled it first to make sure the milk wasn’t spoiled.

To top it all off, she added a generous splash of water to the pan.

Then the mother put some butter in the pan and added a package of pasta with cheese powder.

Then she let it simmer until it became a thick sauce, until the pasta was tender.

Finally, she added peas as a vegetable and a mixture of grated cheese.

To finish the dish, she added a few cups of peaches in juice. She used the juice to make pumpkin for her children and gave them each a third of a granola bar.

She served her children’s food on paper plates so she could clean up quickly.

When she told how her children liked the food, she said, “They loved it.”

Five-ingredient family meals in no time

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @depolishmom with over 1.5 million views and over 70,000 likes.

People were immediately divided over her cooking skills in the comments.

Someone wrote: “It gave me a bad feeling.”

Another commented: “Thank you, I’ll still be hungry.”

“There’s just something about warm tuna that makes my toes curl, the smell does that for me,” wrote a third.

Ways to spend less at the supermarket

Grocery price inflation is putting pressure on us all, but if you shop with the following points in mind you could save hundreds of pounds a year:

  • Avoid shopping at convenience stores – they charge more
  • Ask in the store at what times of the day fresh food is on offer
  • Freeze yellow sticker items where you can
  • Plan meals ahead
  • Try own brand or budget brand alternatives
  • Use unit prices to find the best deals
