Noughties fashion has been back on our high streets for a while now, but it’s not just fashionable garments that are making a comeback.

From tiny butterfly clips all over our heads to the so-called space buns favored by Britney Spears and the Spice Girls, the ’90s and early 2000s were an interesting and experimental time for hairstyles.

The 2000s were full of interesting haircuts — and some of the once-beloved styles have made an epic comeback

We styled our highlights with lots of gel and found a zigzag parting completely normal. For more volume we used a curling iron.

Now that the iconic era is making its debut on the runways, social media users are all excited about the return of a hairpiece once popular when they were teenagers.

The most beloved item is the hair extension scrunchie, which many of us wore as a simple hair tie in a ponytail.

Whether it was full of bouncy curls or tight ringlets, the scrunchie was every teen and little fashionista’s dream. It came in almost every possible color.

But now, in 2024, it looks like we’ve finally figured out how to wear this hair accessory to create the perfect, sleek look, as TikTok user Ashley Paige demonstrates.

The LA blonde recently posted a simple tutorial on how to create the best ‘mesy bun’ in minutes — all thanks to the 2000s-inspired trend.

According to the lifestyle influencer (@ashley.paiige), you first need to part the front section of your hair – in the videoshe did that around her ears.

Once she was done, she pulled the back section into a chic ponytail, then used the “early 2000s hair extensions” as a “pigtail holder.”

Next, the beauty twisted the rest of the ponytail, wrapped it around the huge bun and secured it with a hair elastic to keep it in place.

To complete the sleek look, Ashley also curled the two front pieces, pulled them back and secured them with bobby pins.

‘I’m a broken woman without these,’ say fans of M&S shorts that are perfect for summer and give off a serious 2000s vibe

”You’re left with the chicest and easiest tight, messy bun.

“Try it, it’s my favorite haircut,” she said in the clip.

“Does anyone remember these hairpieces?” wondered Ashley in the caption, which has a whopping 425,000 followers.

Since the video was posted on the platform two days ago, the internet has become extremely popular and the beautiful blue-eyed lady has been viewed no less than 460,000 times.

Dozens of fashion lovers responded en masse, saying the viral accessory was a nod to the past.

Biggest Beauty Flaws

Tara Ledden, beauty editor of Fabulous, shares the do’s and don’ts of beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, everything else is wasted.

“There aren’t many things you can’t negotiate, but these are the biggest cosmetic mistakes that are sabotaging your regime.”

  • Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the number one cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking firm and radiant, sunscreen is essential.
  • Use of products whose expiration date has passed: At best, they are ineffective and do not deliver the results they promise, at worst they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products varies – for example, mascara is usually good for 3-6 months, while lipstick can last 9-18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a jar and has a number inside it for how many months it is safe to use after opening. If you can’t remember when you opened your product, throw it out and start over, marking the month and year on the packaging with a permanent marker.
  • Not knowing your undertone: If you use makeup with the wrong undertones, it will never look natural, no matter how much you mix it! An easy trick to figure out if you have cool, warm, or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue, you have cool undertones, if they look green, you have warm, and if they’re a mix, you have neutral.
  • Skip heat protectant: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to the skin, excessive heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or if you want to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is essential.
  • Not washing your face before bed: it’s as simple as this, if you don’t wash your face before you go to bed, whatever has been on your skin during the day will stay there longer, clogging your pores and drying out the surface. Any skincare you apply on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

Someone said: “So much nostalgia from the scrunchie extension!”

Someone else was equally excited about the item’s return, writing: “Those scrunchies are the best! Once you match your hair color, you’ll be living in them!”

”So easy to make a tight bun on vacation or in the summer after a shower.”

A third thanked the simple explanation, writing: ”20 years later I know how to use that kind of scrunchie.”

“This is so cute! I loved them as a teenager, this way you can’t tell it’s a hairpiece,” said another.
