Two men, including a Western united football player, will get the court for their involvement in an alleged gambling scandal around the A-league Men’s football season.
Detectives of the Victoria Police Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit have loaded a 24-year-old West Melbourne Man and a 27-year-old Kingsville-Man on Sunday with numerous violations, including the use of corrupt behavior for gambling purposes.
Both were saved to appear on the Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 31.
Although the individuals still have to be called public, it is confirmed that someone is a player at Western United, who is third this season in the A-League Men Competition, while the other man is a player of the state competitions.
“The club is aware that a Western United player has been sued in connection with an alleged violation of the guidelines for sports betting,” said a spokesperson for the United Club.
‘We take this issue seriously, condemn all the actions that endanger the integrity of the game and work completely with all relevant authorities. “Given the nature of the investigation, we cannot comment on this issue.”
