Xiaomi India announces MIUI 13 update, days after global rollout begins
Xiaomi has announced the rollout of its MIUI 13 operating system in India, less than a week after the company announced that the update would be rolling out to global models outside China. The smartphone maker’s latest MIUI 13 Android skin is expected to arrive on multiple smartphones outside China, while the company is expected to announce the rollout schedule for smartphones in India in the future. MIUI 13 brings improved performance, new live wallpapers and new widgets along with improved algorithms for better system resource management, enhanced multitasking and battery life.
The company on Tuesday uploaded a poster showing older MIUI numerals on smartphone screens with the text, “It’s 1 PM! Guess what’s coming?”. Last week, Xiaomi had announced that the first wave of devices had started receiving the MIUI 13 update as part of the global rollout. At the time, the company had revealed that Indian models were excluded from the list of updates. Xiaomi is yet to provide details about the devices that will be receiving the MIUI 13 update in India.
While Xiaomi smartphone owners in India await details on the company’s update schedule, devices like the recently launched Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12X are some of the first devices to receive the MIUI 13 update globally, followed by the Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra. Readers can also check out the complete list of devices that will be part of the initial global rollout, as per the company. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 11 series will launch with MIUI 13 out-of-the-box.
As part of the MIUI 13 update, Xiaomi has optimised the performance over MIUI 12.5, with the company claiming improved app “smoothness” with 23 percent fewer dropped frames when running the company’s built-in apps and up to 15 percent reduction in dropped frames when running non-system apps. According to the company, Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones can now run up to 14 apps in the background on flagship smartphones.
The MIUI 13 update also brings a new system font called MiSans, along with new widgets and live wallpapers. The update also brings privacy improvements, with Xiaomi offering features such as a privacy watermark for images, fraud protection and face authentication detection. The company is yet to provide details on how these features will work ahead of the global rollout of MIUI 13.
