A promising young football player of the NSW South Coast has flown to the hospital after a horror -ridges during a rugby league match at the weekend.

Corrimal Cougars player Malaki Moreton was rushed to the Noord -yde hospital before he was later moved to a spinal unity in the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney After the incident.

Moreton, a native man and student of education at the University of Wollongong, has since undergone surgery.

The cougars sent their support to the young player in a statement on social media.
