A winner of the Derby, Oaks, ARC and both Guineas – ‘Hard as Nails’ and a six -time champion Jockey related to a horse whisperer.
Kiers Fallon did it all – some not so good – in his legendary career.
But the iconic rider has unveiled two things that he simply cannot be about today.
Fallon, now 60, was the friend of a punt during his heyday in the late nineties and early nineties.
Only a year of the seven, when Kevin Darley won in 2000, he was not crowned the best in Britain.
The victories and millions of millions of prize money stacked high for the Irish rider.
And he had his own way of doing things.
Fallon did not like to drive in the hold-up style, to sit at the back and wait until the holes appear with a late speed outburst.
He always preferred the pace and provided a real gallop.
And that partly explains one of his complaints with the way racing has disappeared today.
Fallon, who won the Epsom Oaks and Derby four and three times respectively, got the problem from his chest on Sunday.
Now a working driver for Godolphin’s No1 trainer Charlie Appleby, Fallon said there is one driving style that he cannot stand.
Fallon, daddy of the current Jockey Cieren, opened himself on his pet tendon and said: “I hate these false rails.
“I think, for example, the art of racing gets out of it.
“Now, for a punt and from GOK’s point of view, they are great because it opens the race.
“But when they first came out, I didn’t agree with them.
“Another thing that I don’t agree with is the center of the racecourse coming up – it opens it for everyone.
“But if you have a bet and your horse is behind it, gives you much more chance than if you stay on the track.
“But that’s the pleasure and that is the art of it.”
Fallon also opened what it’s like to work for Appleby.
This year, the Southampton -boy completed a Gineas – Dubbele with desert flower – Red -hot favorite for the Oaks – and reigning court that won the 1000 and 2000 Guineas respectively.
Fallon said that desert flower is one of the two that he would prefer to ride on Epsom.
But despite his considerable experience, he is not allowed on the best young talent at Appleby’s Moulton Paddocks Yard.
He joked: “He doesn’t let me have much to do with the two -year -olds.
“He says that once you are older than 55, you can’t drive on yearlings – he is AP *** – Taker, Charlie is!
“But he is a great guy to work for, he is fun.”
