I’m not a jazz guy. I’ve tried, but I’ve never succeeded. And that made today’s Strands pretty tough.
Seriously, it took me three clues to solve it and even then I had to spend a lot of time trying permutations of letters to find the last pair. I’ve heard of most of these SUBGENRES, as the spangram would have it, but not MODAL or COOL, and I didn’t know that BEBOP or RAGTIME were jazz.
I also have a problem with the spangram, which doesn’t seem to be specific to jazz in any way. There are subgenres in almost all types of music, so why are we using a spangram here?

What is NYT Strands?
Strands is the new word game from the NYT, after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta and is therefore a full member of the NYT stable of games and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
