Kay is a former celebrity artist and permanent makeup expert with over 20 years of experience in the cosmetics industry.

In an interview with The US Sun, she shared tricks to combat the signs of aging.

Kay says it’s important to use the right makeup techniques, as the wrong makeup can make you look older.

She said the first tip to consider is how important it is to prep your skin with a hydrating primer.

“A hydrating primer softens fine lines and hydrates the skin, creating a perfect base for your makeup,” she said.

“This type of primer helps fill in small creases and provides an even surface for foundation, making your skin look plumper and more youthful.”

Secondly, Kay recommended having a “lightweight, luminous” foundation in your makeup collection.

She said a dewy foundation prevents makeup from settling into wrinkles and fine lines.

“A radiant finish gives the skin a healthy glow, making the skin look younger and fresher,” she added.

Finally, it is best to replace powder blushes with blushes with a cream formula.

“Creamy blushes blend seamlessly into the skin, providing a natural, dewy finish that mimics the skin’s youthful glow,” she says.

“Powder blush can sometimes sit on the skin and accentuate texture, but a cream blush melts into the skin for a more youthful, vibrant appearance.”

DEFECTIVE FOUNDATIONS

Kay warned against using heavy, matte foundations, as they draw attention to the signs of aging.

“Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation is a product that, while popular for its long-lasting hold, has a heavy, matte formula that will only emphasize the fine lines and wrinkles you have,” she said.

“There are other brands that are known for their matte finish, so be aware that these will look drying when applied and will show your skin’s unique texture if anti-aging is important to you.”

Skin care and beauty products containing alcohol are not recommended for mature or sensitive skin.

She suggested using IT Cosmetics, Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream instead.

It offers full coverage with a “dewy finish,” but also contains anti-aging ingredients like peptides and hyaluronic acid.

As an alternative, she recommended the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation.

PROBLEMATIC PRODUCTS

She stressed that harsh exfoliants should be avoided as they can irritate aging skin.

“Be careful when purchasing exfoliants, some can contain large particles that create very small tears in the skin and cause irritation,” she said.

“For example, St. Ives Apricot Scrub is not ideal if you have sensitive skin.”

She also advised against using beauty products with a high alcohol content, as these can cause dehydration.

“Although Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 is very popular, the product contains a lot of alcohol,” she said.

“As a rule, any skin care or beauty products containing alcohol are not recommended for mature or sensitive skin, as they can dry out the skin and be too aggressive.”

Kay recommended restoring skin’s hydration with hyaluronic acid and said retinol also works wonders for a more youthful appearance.

“Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a great recommendation to try because it has a lightweight gel formula with hyaluronic acid, which provides long-lasting hydration without feeling heavy,” she said.

“A serum-based product, like Murad Retinol, contains fast-acting retinoids to improve the appearance of lines.”
