According to life hack expert Rosaline Webb, opening windows may seem like the best way to let some air flow, but this will actually have the opposite effect.

The 28-year-old expert revealed that, contrary to popular myth, opening all the windows in your home only lets in more warm air.

During hot summer days, it’s best to keep your home cool by opening some windows and keeping others closed, she noted. That way, she and her parents can stay cool when the temperature rises.

Rosaline shared on TikTok: “First, close all the windows on the south side of the house, or the side of the house that gets the most sunlight.

”Then close the curtains so that no more sunlight shines in.

”Finally, open all the windows on the north side of the house, or the side of the house that is in the shade, to let all the cold air in.”

The life hack expert stressed that the summer hack “really works, regardless of what people say.”

Rosaline added that her north-facing house ”doesn’t get any direct sunlight at all, because of the surrounding houses. So it’s always cooler on that side”.

Social media users responded en masse in the comments to thank Rosaline for sharing the clever trick. Others even showed how they tackle the warm days.

A social media user wrote: “Best method in hot countries. Open all windows from late evening to early morning to cool down the house.

”Close all windows and curtains during the day.”

Another was also wise: “If you have sliding windows, open them at the top as well as at the bottom. Warm air is light and will leave the room, while cooler air is drawn in from below.”

Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth expects high UV levels this weekend as temperatures rise.

“A little bit warmer extends further north across the northeastern areas of the East Scotland “It will still be largely dry with temperatures around 20 degrees, but it will be a little windier,” she noted.

Annie added that there is a chance of “30°C, and possibly even 31°C in the Greater London area”.

The meteorologist added: “Temperatures will also frequently exceed 20 degrees in central and south-east England.”

A map showed that temperatures were likely to reach 28°C in Norwich and Birmingham, 27°C in Hull, 26°C in Southampton and 25°C in Manchester.

The news comes just days after the Met Office issued flood warnings.
