Sly Stone Dead at 82: Funk Legend in the 60s progresses because the cause of death is revealed

Funk legend Sly Stone from the 60s – Frontman of Sly and the Local Stone – died on 82.

Stone’s family announced the death of the influential musician in a statement released on Monday.

They revealed that he had a long struggle with chronic hindered lung disease (COPD) and had other underlying health problems.

The artist’s family wrote: ‘It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved father, Sly Stone of Sly and the family stone.

‘After a long struggle with COPD and other underlying health problems, Slying died peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his best friend and his extensive family. While we mourn his absence, we take comfort in the knowledge that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for the coming generations. ‘

His band Sly and The Family Stone is credited as one of the most influential bands in the development of Funk, Soul, R&B, Rock and Psychedelic music.

The explanation continued: ‘Sly was a monumental figure, a groundbreaking innovator and a real pioneer who redesigned the landscape of pop, funk and rock music.

“His iconic songs have left an indelible mark on the world and his influence does not continue to deny.”

The family continued to reveal that those who are interested in reading about the life of the music legend can read by reading his memoirs released last year.

The explanation was: ‘In a proof of his lasting creative mind, SLY recently completed the scenario for his life story, a project that we want to share with the world in due course, which follows a memoir published in 2024.

‘We extend our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during this difficult time. We wish peace and harmony for everyone who was touched by Sly’s life and his iconic music. Thank you from the ground of our heart for your non -repellent support. ‘

His groundbreaking band was best known for their hits dancing to the music, everyday people and thanks (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).

Sly and the family stone include two of his actual brothers and sisters – Freddie and Rose Stone – as they formed in San Francisco, California in 1966.

The artist was born Sylvester Stewart in 1943 in Denton, Texas, before his entire family moved to the West.

His nickname Sly came when classmate had spelled his name wrong.

When he then changed his stage name of Stewart to Stone, his two brothers and sisters who were in his band also followed.

He started performing in high school in bands before he went to study music at the Solano Community College.

His music career, however, started when he left the school to work as a DJ for the radio station of San Francisco Ksol and worked with many emerging acts.

Then in 1966 he and his brother combined their bands. Sly’s band was called Sly and the Stoners while Freddie’s Freddie and the Stone Souls was called.

From their decision to unite, Slye wrote in his Memoir from 2023 thank you (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin): ‘The band had a concept – white and black together, men and women both, and women not only sing instruments.

“That was a big problem then, and it was intentionally a big problem.”

The band released their debut album – entitled A Whole New Thing – in 1967. In the same year she performed in the iconic Woodstock.

They enjoyed good success until the 1970s when Sly’s drug problems started to come to a head.

By 1975 his drug problems and interpersonal collisions led to dissolution, but he stayed with the band and continued to tour with a rotating line -up.

His drug problems, however, forced his effective retirement in 1987.

Sly and the family stone were recorded in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, but he kept distance from the rest of the band.

Sly was married to model actress Kathy Silva from 1974 to 1976 and divorced after their son Sylvester Jr. His dog was picked up.

He also two daughters: Sylvyette Phunne with Cynthia Robinson in 1976 and Novena Carmel that he welcomed in 1982.
