Great cruise company prohibits popular travel accessory and causes confusion in passengers

A large cruise line has introduced a ban on a popular travel item and a number of passengers have been confused.

Cruise lines always have a list of forbidden items and it is common to see potentially dangerous items such as candles and heating equipment.

But a fresh forbidden item on Carnival Cruise Line has surprised some regular cruisers.

In a hut letter that is given to passengers when they board the cruise, De Lijn explains that ‘handheld fans’ are forbidden from a popular part of the ship.

The letter states: “For safety reasons, handheld fans are not allowed in the nightclub or an indoor dance floor.”

Because handheld fans are a popular travel accessory for hot destinations, many cruise guests were worried about the ban.

In a video message, the brand ambassador of Carnival Cruise Line John Heal spoke to the rules.

The ambassador emphasized that only handheld fans – paper fans ‘made of cardboard’ – are banned from the inner dance floor.

Guests are still allowed to take small electric handheld fans on board Carnival Cruise Line ships.

Heal said: ‘Are fans allowed on board? Yes they are. We have not changed any rule with regard to the fans who like some of you in your cabin.

‘The electric fans – no larger than 12 inches – they are of course allowed.

‘Make sure they are in good condition. But of course you can continue to take fans with you. ‘

And although some guests were confused by the rules, Heald added that the majority of the passengers had responded positively to the letter.
