Hillary Clinton and Jill Biden looked set to make a quick exit at Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony – when frenzied social media users were left in stitches after noticing they both kept their wallets on.

On Monday, President Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States in the Capitol Rotunda, where some 600 of his family members, friends, members of the government and supporters gathered.

Naturally, the ceremony was also attended by previous presidents and their wives, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, George W. and Laura Bush, and Joe and Jill Biden.

But as the presidential couples entered the Capitol, many social users noticed that both Hillary Clinton and Jill Biden were carrying handbags, and they didn't seem to want to let them go.

Biden, who was decked out in a custom purple Ralph Lauren look, carried hers on her shoulder, while Clinton carried hers in her hands.

Their entrances with the purses were captured on TV as well as on TikTok.

After the ceremony, many users joked that they were both ready to make a quick escape after their official duties were completed.

'She's on her way out. There was no way back in!' wrote one commenter.

Another agreed: “So when it's over they're out of there!”

“I think she was packed and ready to get out of there,” someone else typed.

In another TikTok video capturing the moment, someone else wrote, “Wait for her to take her keys out and hold them in her hand.”

“Jill is ready. She'll meet you at the car,” one person joked.

Someone else commented: 'She didn't wait for ANYONE.'

Other commenters pointed out that the ladies had nowhere to put their bags during the ceremony.

Notably, neither the Clintons, Bushes nor Barack Obama attended Trump's inaugural luncheon after the ceremony, according to NBC.

They were also not present at last night's opening ball.

Meanwhile, Donald and Melania Trump hit three inaugural balls in one evening as they lit up Washington, DC, to mark the start of his presidency.

The newly sworn-in president and his glamorous first lady started off at the military-themed Commander in Chief Ball before heading to the nearby Liberty Ball where they danced on stage with the entire Trump family.

They then drove in a motorcade to Union Station for the Starlight Ball.

Melania's gorgeous, long black and white dress, complete with a thigh-high slit, was designed by her longtime stylist, Hervé Pierre.

He also designed her inaugural ball gown in 2017, when Trump was serving his first term.
