EFL unveils never before changed change in Carabao Cup as teams needed to qualify

The EFL has for the first time introduced a provisional round for the Carabao Cup.

Nine Premier League teams that compete in Europe means that the cup must be restructured this season.

A provisional round will take place for the first round, consisting of four teams.

They include the two teams that were promoted last season from the National League, Barnet and Oldham, as well as Accrington Stanley and Newport County, which ended in the lowest two places in the EFL.

The provisional draw and the first round of draw will be held on the same day – Thursday 26 June.
