‘Made my day’ say garden lovers after spotting cheap plants on Too Good To Go
IF you are an avid bargain hunter, then you are probably already familiar with Too Good To Go.
The app is designed to reduce the huge amount of food thrown away by supermarkets by offering surprise bags full of goodies at a discount.
Several stores, including Aldi, Morrisons, Greggs, Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero and Subway, have signed up to sell the boxes of food that are close to their expiration date at a heavily reduced price.
You usually have to be quick, as there are only a few boxes available each day.
If your food is approaching its expiration date, you can often freeze a large quantity of it or prepare something so that it will last for a few more days.
However, smart shoppers were astonished to discover that they could also score cheap plants through the app.
Dobbies, the UK’s largest garden centre chain, has also been active on Too Good To Go for the past three years.
They offer tasty leftover food from their cafes in mystery bags worth £3.99, but customers can also take advantage of a garden bargain.
Too Good To Go boxes of indoor and outdoor plants with an RRP of £30 are available to purchase for £10 from selected Dobbies stores.
And people claim it made their day after discovering the garden’s ‘secret’.
A plant lover bought a £10 Dobbies Indoor Plant Bag from the store in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
She posted on Reddit: “I’ve been curious about this for weeks but couldn’t get there in time to pick it up.
“When I arrived, they brought me outdoor plants that looked very sad. But when I told them I had ordered indoor plants, they went to get them for me.
“The spoon plant even came with a nice pot.”
Another shopper, Joanne, said she “loves a bargain on plants” and shared her find on social media.
Joanne from Perth is not one to keep her discovery a secret. She said: “I’ve heard that not many people know that Dobbies now also makes Too Good To Go plant bags.
“I got a houseplant back for £10 and I got two beautiful houseplants with it.
“The one in the hall should have cost a tenner and the one in the kitchen £25.
“I have never been so happy! They had a big shelf that I could just grab something from!!”
Her clip has since gone viral and has been viewed more than 170,000 times.
And garden enthusiasts will be amazed that they have never heard of Dobbies bags before.
“This made me say WHAT out loud,” one shouted.
Someone else wrote: “OMG! *immediately checks the app*”
