- The first iOS 26 -developer is now ahead of his public beta launch in July
- One of the upgrades is a new option called ‘Keep Audio in Headphones’
- This should reduce the car switching problems for wireless headphones
If you are fed up with your iPhone automatically switching to any other Bluetooth device other than your headphones, then iOS 26 has a treat for you – a new option to have the audio connected to your wireless headphones.
As spotted by Macrumorsthe new iOS 26 Developer beta Has a long -awaited new option called “Keep Audio in Headphones” in the settings of the iPhone. The new option will apparently be live in the Settings> General> AirPlay & Continuity section and is specifically designed to prevent headphones from making unwanted connections with devices in the neighborhood.
AppleThe description of the function says: “When using AirPods or other connected headphones, keep the audio in your headphones when other playback devices such as cars and speakers connect to the iPhone.”
This happens to me all the time, whether it is my audio that automatically switches to speakers in the car or to my iPad when it is used by someone else. It is clear that I am not the only one to find this annoyance frustrating, so luckily Apple records this new option in iOS 26, and hopefully it will be the last release of the software in September.
A bit old in the bluetooth
Bluetooth is now more than 25 years old, so in some respects it is wonderful that the wireless technology works at a short distance as well as but yet it is often frustrating.
Without the option to prioritize the order of your desired Bluetooth devices, it can often feel that Auto-Switching has its own mind. So this setting, although not exactly one of the Largest iOS 26 functionsIt is definitely a welcome quality of life tweak.
Not that this is the only frustrating problem with Bluetooth with which we have to struggle. When our colleagues at What Hi Fi? Recently noted, it is high time that audio manufacturers also started their Bluetooth coupling processes.
Of course these are a lot of problems in the first world, but Bluetooth 6.0 is now being rolled out to bring more refinements to the now -handical technology. These include improved filtering and efficiency, which should provide the battery life benefits, together with a function called Channel Sounding to improve the accuracy of ‘Find My Device’ services of Apple, Google and Samsung.
