‘Destroyed’ Club kicked from Europe by UEFA in Crystal Palace-Style Case

Irish Club Drogheda United has been driven out of the UEFA Conference League due to rules for several club ownership.

The news that UEFA action takes will take fear Crystal Palace with the Premier League team for a similar threat.

Drogheda United is currently owned by the Trivela Group – an organization that also has a majority share in the Danish side Silkorg IF.

Silkeborg has also qualified for the Conference competition But their involvement means that Drogheda United are unable to compete UEFA Regulations.

Drogheda was therefore driven out of the competition of next season, with Silkorg finished in a higher competition position.

Club officials, however, intend to appeal against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

A rack Read: “The club can confirm that UEFA has been informed that we are confronted with expulsion from the UEFA Conference League due to Drogheda United and Silkeborg as both have qualified for the same competition.

“This is despite the fact that the club is significant efforts to work together with UEFA to make the necessary ownership and administrative changes to be able to compete both in recent months.

“We were destroyed by this potential development and believe that it would be both hard and unfair, given the way in which brand new rule changes are this year, in our opinion are inconsistent communicated and maintained in various clubs.

“We are now relying on the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Given that we are now in the midst of continuous legal proceedings and out of respect for that process, UEFA, the CFCB and the general goal of sporting integrity, there are limits to what we can share at the moment.

“What we can say is this: we are – even at this late hour – to do everything we can to secure our players, supporters and the location of the community in Europe.

“We have been in active dialogue with UEFA for months and have proposed a share institution, trust schemes and various other companies that are consistent with the recent CFCB precisent, just to have all those efforts rejected.

“Nevertheless, we look forward to the chance to be heard at Cas and thank you in advance for your support. Keep faith.”

Crystal Palace stands for a similar situation in the Europa League.

The largest shareholder of the club, John Textor, is also the majority of ownership LyonWho also qualified for the competition this season.

The French side Lyon was given priority when they finished higher in the competition table, where Crystal Palace qualified by Winning the FA Cup last month.

Palace officials already have a meeting with UEFA leaders in Switzerland, with the argument that Textor has no controlling influence in Selhurst Park.

They now expect a final decision at the end of June.

In the midst of the current fight, Textor wants to sell its shares in Crystal Palace.

Reportedly received an offer from New York Jets -owner Woody Johnson This week.

If Textor sells on June 27, Palace probably seems to keep their place in the Europa League.
