I traded dead bodies for a glittering catwalk after being crowned beauty pageant queen

A funeral home employee shared how happy she was to have become a beauty queen.

Olivia Sharkey, from Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, was named Miss Great Britain Glasgow during a glittering ceremony at the Broadcroft Hotel in Kirkintilloch last weekend.

The 21 year old blonde beauty beat nine other competitors in the battle for the title, with Rebecca Miller from East Kilbride finishing second and Sofie Louise Stewart from Greenock came third.

Olivia will now continue to represent the city on the UK’s longest running beauty Miss Great Britain at the national final in Leicester in October.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it when they called my name as the winner. I still can’t help myself.

“I went the competition Because I wanted to step out of my comfort zone, I’m glad the risk was worth it.

“It was truly the most rewarding experience and I am so grateful that I got to spend it with a group of some of the most inspiring women I have ever Met.

“I feel incredibly honoured to represent my home city of Glasgow in the country’s longest running beauty pageant and I can’t wait to continue using my title to raise awareness for the causes closest to my heart.”

Olivia, who is one of the three female funeral service employees at Joseph Potts Funeral Directors hope to use her platform to raise money and awareness for bereavement charityCrotch Scotland.

She continued: “Helping others get through their grief is one of the most rewarding things in my life. function.

“I feel honored to be able to support others who are going through an incredibly difficult time.

“When you hear the stories of the families in our care is what inspired me to raise awareness of Cruse Scotlandand I am proud to have raised over £1,300 for the organisation over the last seven months.

“I look forward to continuing with work in addition to the charity during my tenure as Miss Great Britain Glasgow in the hope that their services can reach those who need it most.”
