Shane Lowry kicked himself at the US Open after a basic blunder.
The World No. 12 grabbed his ball sensational before he marked it on the 14th Green in his second round in Oakmont.
Lowry immediately realized his blunder and cursed his violation of the most elementary of golf lines.
And according to the rules, he was immediately punished a point – although he could have been moored.
He complains about his blunder, albeit with a smile on his face, he said: ‘It is probably one of the stupidest things I have ever done.
“I just picked up the ball.
“I had turned the ball my hand and [caddie] Drag [Reynolds] He actually said to me, “What are you doing?”
“I put it back and marked it and played it up and I knew it would be punished.
“I didn’t know if it would be one or two.
“But yes, maybe I was just my mind somewhere else, but I fought. I still tried it.”

Another said, “Oakmont is to Lowry.”
And another said, “Not a good thing to do.”
It was noted: “Shane is not having a good time.”
Another sarcastic cut: “He has to play a little more in the PGA.”
Lowry eventually missed the cut for the second time in seven US Open performances with scores of 79 and 78.
When asked where he went wrong, he said: “I don’t know I’m honest.
It is probably one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. “
Shane Lowry on his 14th green blunder
“I drove it into the game a lot yesterday, did what I had to do with the tee.
“And then I didn’t have my game that I’ve had lately.
“And then I really struggled on the greens yesterday and the round got away from me here and that was it.
‘I let it do it a bit [to me] What I said wouldn’t do it. But that is Oakmont. That is open the US. “
