Update the Sonos app on your iPhone and you may be able to fix your battery issue

After a tumultuous few months for SonosSpecifically, its app for controlling its connected speakers and soundbars is rolling out another bug-squashing update. And if you’ve been experiencing rapid battery drain on your iPhone thanks to the Sonos app for iOS, this should be good news.

As confirmed by “KeithFromSonos” on the Sonos RedditThe iOS app is getting a new update. It focuses on fixing the app’s excessive battery usage and the previously promised commitment to improving the stability of adding new products.

This comes just a few days after CEO Patrick Spence wrote a letter apologizes for the app and its rollout and promises to add missing features and regain user trust. The letter also notes that more updates are planned and states what will be repaired and when.

There is still a long list of updates coming in

Apparently, the Sonos team has been working to get this fix out as quickly as possible, now that users are raising the battery drain issues. And a good portion of people were happy to see it, with some noting that they’ve even deleted the app due to the battery drain on their iPhone or iPad. Others are still reporting the app crashing and Sonos systems not being found, so there’s clearly more work to be done.

The other issue that is said to be fixed with this latest update is the improved stability when adding new products such as the Era 100, the Roam 2 speaker or the Ace headphones.

Sonos is still working on future improvements and bug fixes, which are expected next week. Based on Spence’s note, August will focus on fixes for music libraries, volume responsiveness, general UI improvements, and system error handling. Improvements to alarms, changes to settings, and the restoration of edit mode for queues and playlists are expected in September and October.

Version 80.05.05 of the Sonos app is now available on iOS and iPadOS. If you’ve been experiencing issues, it’s time to update. You can expect to see more of these updates in the coming weeks.
