Bellew put his hands on his face while he turned the tunnel off, clearly despondent with his early withdrawal.
Physio’s were present at the affected star, who shivered with pain on the touchline after he had been removed.
Bellew’s left knee was heavily tied and was perhaps the cause of his injury.
ITV commentator Sam Matterface said about the injury: “I heard it go. That can’t be good.”
Bellew’s rest of the world manager Harry Redknapp shared a worrying injury update about the 42-year-old prior to the competition.
He said: “Tony Bellew, former world champion, he just decided to start a ball without even warming up and just tore his groin.
“He is so difficult that he will probably play with it.”
