Eight Salernitana players were taken to the hospital for serious food poisoning.
The incident took place only a few hours after they were beaten 2-0 yesterday by Sampdoria in the first stage of a play-off to relegation to the Italian Third layer.
Salernitana Stars were on a chartered flight home from Genoa When several people got sick.
Gazzetta Dello Sport Claim that many started to feel sick after eating a meal on board that was prepared at the hotel’s hotel.
A total of 21 employees, including eight players, would suffer from “gastrointestinal problems” and had “unbearable pain”.
At their landing at home at Salerno-Costa d’Alfi airport, four ambulances were called to treat the team and some were taken to the hospital.
The majority was fired a few hours later, but some stay with doctors.
Training has been canceled today, because many still feel unwell.
Salernitana has asked for the second stage of their draw against Sampdoria on Friday evening to be postponed.
Club chef Maurizio Milan said in a statement: “We are genuinely shocked by what happened and by the series of events that run the risk of undermining the regular and peaceful approach to Salernitana of the last and fundamental minutes of the season.
“We have already coupled informally with the Lega series B and have received a general openness to evaluate our requests.
“Many players and employees are currently not even able to appear at the sport- center to resume training.
“We rely on the availability of the relevant authorities so that this serious situation can be taken into account and at the same time determine the causes of these widespread and serious episode.”
The police in Genoa attended the hotel where the team remained to start their investigation.
