- Amazon to invest AU $ 20 billion in Australia between now and 2029

Amazon has confirmed plans to invest AU $ 20 billion in Australia between 2025 and 2029, with extensive data center infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne for a large part of the coming plans.
The company says that this promise of billions of dollars is the “largest publicly announced global technology investments” in Australia.

Amazon makes “largest” technical investment in Australia
Amazon, with reference to figures from the Department of Industry, Science and Resources of the Australian government.
As part of the cash injection and to support the growing infrastructure network, Amazon also confirmed that it will build three new solar farms in Victoria and Queensland to add more than 170 megawatts to the grid. That is on top of the eight solar and wind projects in which it already invests in New South Wales and the two states above.
With all 11 sites in operation, Amazon expects to generate more than 1.4 million Megawatt hours of clean energy every year.
“This is the largest investment that our country has seen with a global technology supplier and is an exciting opportunity for Australia to build AI capacity with the help of safe, resilient infrastructure,” said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The announcement comes with the usual side dishes – daring claims of widespread upskilling and economic contributions.
Since 2017, the company claimed to have trained more than 400,000 Australian citizens, the company promised to collaborate with educational institutions, industrial partners and the government for further training options.
AWS CEO Matt Garman concluded: “AI is a unique transformation and Amazon is delighted to enable all Australians to be a scale on a scale in innovation through this investment.”
The news comes only a few days after AWS has committed $ 20 billion to expand the Cloud Computing infrastructure in Pennsylvania, and another $ 10 billion commitment to North Carolina.
