Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has told the New York Jets that he plans to take on the role of head coach with the organization, according to reports.
The Jets have been searching for Robert Saleh's successor since their firing in October, and the interview process has intensified over the past two weeks.
Glenn was the team's No. 1 target and NFL insider Josina Anderson reports he has announced his intention to take the job.
Sources from multiple leagues report that, barring a major setback, Glenn will be announced as the Jets' new head coach in the coming hours.
The in-demand DC, who was previously drafted in the first round by the Jets in 1994 and then went on to work for the franchise as a personnel scout from 2012 to 2013, has been in Detroit since 2021, where his stock has risen dramatically. .
He was in New Jersey on Tuesday for further discussions with the team following the Lions' shocking elimination from the playoffs on Saturday.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Glenn landed back in Detroit on Jets owner Woody Johnson's private jet.
It was claimed on Tuesday that the job was Glenn's 'if he wanted it', and that now appears to be the case.
Glenn's work in helping transform the Lions under head coach Dan Campbell has made him one of the top coaching candidates for teams this offseason.
Later this week he was also supposed to have an interview with the New Orleans Saints, but now it appears that will not happen.
It's believed Glenn is already lining up his coaching staff with Lions quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell an option as his offensive coordinator.
The Jets have conducted an extensive search and have already interviewed sixteen candidates.
Glenn, 52, first conducted a virtual interview with the Jets on Jan. 9 about their head coaching vacancy.
