The Bishop of Washington has responded to Donald Trump calling her “dirty” and “not smart” after she encouraged him to show mercy to LGBTQ+ people and illegal immigrants.
The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde said she wanted to “counter the narrative that is so divisive and polarizing and that harms people,” during an appearance on The View.
She added that she would welcome the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Trump and that she has “great respect for his office.”
Budde spoke out after using a service marking the presidential inauguration to make an emotional plea to the president, stating that many in the marginalized groups “fear for their lives.”
However, her words fell on deaf ears and Trump immediately hit back at Truth Social, demanding an apology and labeling her a “radical left hardline Trump hater.”
