Mark Wood has revealed that he bowling back in the nets and hopes to have his England return to the fifth test against India.
The Durham Quick was operated on his wounded left knee in March and was expected to miss the whole test in the summer.
Wood, however, believes that he can now be back in time to stand up in the last game of the India series, which starts on July 31 at the Oval, prior to the Winter Ashes Tour.
“Rehab is going well,” said the 35-year-old BBC Test match special, for whom he works at Headingley.
‘I just started bowling, very light, but I am now officially on the comeback path.
‘I still hope to play a role in this series. I still focus on perhaps the last test.

‘Everything for that is probably a bit too early. The last test that I might not be able to get there, but the moment I am still my focus, that I could play a role. ‘
Wood’s threatening return is an important boost for England, hoping that their entire battery is fast bowlers suitable for Australia.
Jorfa Archer is also expected to play in Sussex’s County Championship match in Durham from Sunday, with a view to making his comeback in England in the second or third test.
