Royal Ascot Jockey Gary Carroll has been banned and fined – days after winning the biggest race of his life.
Carroll sent 33-1 Roughie Cercene in a shock finish to the Coronation Branches last Friday.
Trainer Joseph Murphy said that the unlikely victory – worth £ 500,000 – was the highlight of his life’s work and then emotional scenes in the fence of the winner.
But the superstar Merrieveeulen needs a new jockey for her intended run in the Irish Oaks next month after Carroll was hit with a big ban.
He was beaten with a two -week suspension and was fined £ 5,800 for the use of his whip twice above the limit of six in the Mile Race.
In any other race, Carroll would only have forbidden seven days.
But his sentence is doubled because the coronation deployment was a class one match.
All in all, this means that he will be from 8 to 21 July, with the Juddmonte Irish Oaks two days before his ban ends on July 19.
