In his viral videothe TikTok user (@papabruin) explained that he makes his own natural insecticide for his plants.

According to the Green Finger Poster, store-bought insecticides can be harmful to your garden.

He explained that they are bad for your plants and for you, but he added that they can also seep into the soil and sometimes end up in the water.

The TikTokker said he wanted to share his DIY recipe in the hopes that it would encourage others to stop using chemicals.

And this trick is also useful for saving money, because it involves products that you probably already own.

For his first step, he added 1 cup (235 milliliters) of vegetable oil to a large mixing bowl.

The castor oil in the product has been shown to be effective in repelling various types of insects.

The TikTok user’s next step was to add liquid hand soap to the bowl.

Most hand soaps contain citrus ingredients that insects find repulsive, making them an effective ingredient in pest control.

However, the gardener warned his followers not to apply the mixture to their plants yet.

He explained that it takes about 900 milliliters of water to dilute the solution.

The TikToker recommended mixing the ingredients well before pouring them into the spray bottle.

He then showed you how to use the homemade pest control product in your garden.

“You can spray it directly on the leaves, you can even spray it on your fruit, it won’t harm them,” he said.

Keep pests out all summer long

Hornets and wasps hate the smell of peppermint oil. Spray this liberally on your patio or balcony to keep them at bay.

Moths – Acidic household vinegar is effective in repelling moths. Soak some paper towels in vinegar and leave them in your wardrobe as a deterrent.

Flying ants – herbs and spices such as cinnamon, mint, chili pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves or garlic act as a deterrent.

Mosquitoes – Plants, herbs and essential oil scents can help repel mosquitoes inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.

“This is organic, it doesn’t contain any carcinogens, but it gets rid of the insects that eat your garden.”

He called the mixture “completely safe” for garden use.

TikTok users shared their thoughts about the recipe in the comments.

“I made this today and used it in my vegetable garden,” one viewer wrote.

“I have tried this with my plants in my flower pots. I would say it works very well and makes the foliage plants shiny, but the delicate flowers will wilt,” warned another follower.
