Bad stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are among the big names who picked up coveted Oscar nominations at Thursday's Academy Award nominations event.

The annual ceremony will see Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Perez, Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys and The Substance competing for Best Picture.

Former Succession co-stars Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong were the first stars to receive nominations in the Actor in a Supporting Role category for their roles in A Real Pain and The Apprentice.

The category also featured Anora's Yura Borisov, A Complete Unknown's Edward Norton and The Brutalist's Guy Pearce.

Elsewhere, Emilia Perez dominated the nominations with 13 awards, including International Feature Film, Original Score, Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actress.

In the final category, Zoe Saldana will battle for victory against Wicked's Ariana Grande, A Complete Unknown's Monica Barbaro, The Brutalist's Felicity Jones and Conclave's Isabella Rossellini.

The nominations for the upcoming Oscars were finally revealed after being postponed due to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

Comedian and actors Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang are currently announcing the nominations during a live presentation from the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.

The upcoming 97th Academy Awards will still take place on March 2, and will be hosted by comedian and TV personality Conan O'Brien.

It marks O'Brien's Oscar hosting debut after fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel revealed he turned down the chance to return after four consecutive years.

It comes after a number of celebrities lost their homes in the Pacific Palisades area, including Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, Adam Brody and wife Leighton Meester, as well as Anna Faris.

The fire in the upscale LA neighborhood has currently burned more than 14,000 homes and other buildings since January 7.

Other wildfires have also broken out, such as the Eaton Fire in Pasadena and another called the Hurst Fire in the San Fernando Valley.

In the wake of the horrific events, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences initially postponed the announcement of the 2025 Oscar nominations from January 17 to January 19 – before moving it to January 23.

The voting period – which started on Wednesday – was also extended until Tuesday, January 14. Initially, voting was scheduled to end on Sunday, January 12.

A letter from the Academy, according to The Hollywood Reporter, read: “We would like to express our deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating fires in Southern California.”

“So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”

Earlier this year, Zoe Saldana led the film Emilia Perez to top honors at the Golden Globe Awards.

The evening also saw a major win for historical film The Brutalist, while Demi Moore became a first-time winner at the age of 62 for her role in The Substance.

Meanwhile, Wicked only managed to secure a win in the Cinematic And Box Office Achievement category.
